FAQ: Massage Therapist vs. Masseuse

Education & training

A masseuse typically acquires training informally (i.e. short courses, training programs). A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) acquires formal training and certification through an accredited massage therapy program or school.

Style & specialization

A masseuse will usually offer relaxation/stress relief massages. An RMT can offer those as well as a broader range of therapeutic massages.

Setting & atmosphere

You will often find masseuses at spas or beauty/wellness centres. RMTs are more common in clinical settings (i.e. hospitals, physiotherapy clinics, sports facilities).
